Who am I?

Hi! Nice to see you here. Your curiosity got the better of you, did it? I don’t really know what to tell you about me, though. So let’s start with a few stats.

  • I live in the Netherlands. My native language is Dutch.
  • Born in 1976. Which is easier than updating this page every time I have one of those birthday thingies.
  • Female, cis-gendered, bisexual.
  • Living by myself.
  • No kids, two cats.
  • Atheist.
  • Book lover.
  • Computer geek. Or nerd. Depending on your definition.
  • Diagnosed with Asperger’s Syndrome, a form of autism, in 2013.

I write mostly about autism-related stuff, out of an intense desire to share what I’ve learned so far. There are so many misconceptions about what autism is, and how it affects people. Everyone’s experiences are different. I hope I can let others know that they’re not alone.

  1. Dear Autisticook,

My name is Vered Seidmann and I am conducting a study on Autism and the Social Media. I am a PhD student at the Wee Kim Wee School of Communication and Information Studies (WKWSCI), in Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. I study the voice and the presence of autism as reflected in social media. The direct voice of autistic people is under-explored and I find it extremely important to listen to the unique voice of autistic people. Your blog provides important insights about autism and I was wondering if I can be in touch with you for more detailed explanation.
If you are willing, I would be very grateful to be in touch with you directly via e-mail and send you more detailed information. My e-mail address is: vered001@e.ntu.edu.sg .

    Thank you,
    Vered Seidmann

  2. Hello
I found your blog randomly whilst searching on something to try and understand my autistic daughter who is having a few struggles with my authority at the moment. I love the way you explain yourself, you have given me great hope for the future.

  3. autisticook, your blog is currently included on our Actually Autistic Blogs List (anautismobserver.wordpress.com). Please click on the “How do you want your blog listed?” link at the top of that site to personalize your blog’s description.
    Thank you.

  4. Hi, I like your blog. It really speaks to me (I read and weep). I have a question. I speak Dutch, and I assumed you site is autistic ook, also autistic. I have seen it listed as Austistic Cook elsewhere, and I wondered if that was (part of) your intention? I can’t get the email link to work.
